Trek Kodachadri - Tour Jog falls 07-08 Nov 2011

D-Day Kodachadri ----finally 7 heads made it to Kodachadri hills & Jog falls

7 November 2011
We reached Shimoga Town Railway Station by over-night train from Bangalore where Driver Thimappa (Vijaya Travels) picked us. We hit road by 7am. stopped en-route for tea & to buy snacks for our trip at 08:40am. We crossed Nagara Fort by 9:10am reached Pathalegere Guest House by 09:50am where Prabhakar Bhatt greeted us. After bathing we had Tea & Breakfast & We started the trek by 11:40am with Trek-Guide Manjunath.

After trekking for about 2-2.5km in leech-infested terrain we reached an open-space where the views were amazing on all 3-sides we could see from that place. It was fascinating to notice a shepherd-dog guarding a herd of cows. We all had buttermilk and continued to trek. After crossing 2 small streams,
we reached Idlumanne falls by 02:00pm. It was awesome scene with tree-roots running all the way from top-bottom of the waterfalls. The view was totally out of the world & very hard to describe or put into words.

After being absorbed by the serene gigantic look of the waterfalls we took right-up from the Idlumanne waterfalls where we spent about 30-40 minutes. Around 3:00pm, trekking continued- 360-degree view from the so-called pasture lands was breath-taking.

Trekking from this part was a bit hard as sun was beating down hot & terrain got tougher - very very steep.

With constant photo-shoots, chit-chats, taking-gathering our breaths we kept trekking-walking in-between beautiful,wonderful, breath-taking pasture-lands(that's how they looked me) till trek-trail met Jeep road.

From here-on we had to walk on the Jeep road till we reached Bhatte's maane (Bhatta's home) where most refreshments were available. It was about 5:15pm & engulfing clouds dampened our spirits of watching sunset at Kodachadri hill.

We still trekked the peak opposite to sun-rise view point peak for about an hour to reach Sarvajna Peetha where Shankaracharya's idol is being placed in a small temple. Time was already 6:10pm.
We tried to take a click -unlucky again.

Guide Manjunath pointed us to trail which would take 3-4 hours to reach Arisinagundi falls.

Clouds are to be blamed still I would head to Kodachadri again in summer 2012 to try my luck to witness sunset from Kodachadri peak.

8 Nov 2011

left at 11am from Pathalagere Guest House headed to Kullur Mookambika Temple in 1 hour.
After darshan, we left Kollur by 1:30pm & stopped in Nittur for lunch.
We crossed sharavati river with the help of launch - nominal charge of Rs 100 was collected for Tavera & 8 heads.

On the way to Jog falls, we visited 1 of heritage sites of Aghoreshvara Temple in Ikkeri
This temple structure was really a masterpiece--stood test of times & all weather.

Such a place anywhere in Tamil Nadu or Andhra Pradesh would have easily been commercialized and littered in no time. Kudos to Archaelogical society of India whose maintaining and preserving this heritage site.

Karnataka & Kerala government(S) should be appreciated for guarding the interesting tourists from all over

We resumed our journey towards Jog falls -where we reached by 5:45pm.

We spent about an hour in world famous Jog-falls -Raja(was flowing less-could be his off-day or not in full-flow), Rani, Roarer & Rocket -names of 4 falls in Jog.
